. . . Saba and Savta Who Have Everything

Not another T-shirt from Acapulco, my closet is already overflowing, I beg my children and grandchildren. Not another book, I have a dozen stacked up that I haven't gotten around to reading.

So what can you give saba and savta, grandpa and grandma, who've been living in the same place for 35 years, have a house full of tchotchkes and every conceivable kitchen gadget?

I don't want the latest iPhone, videogame or computer attachment.

PM wants university headscarf ban lifted asap

TURKISH Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he wants a ban on the Islamic headscarf in universities abolished "as soon as possible" despite harsh objections from secularists, Anatolia news agency reported.

"We want this issue to be resolved as soon as possible within the democratic parliamentarian order... It is time for this problem to come to an end," Mr Erdogan told a gathering of his Islamist-rooted Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Istanbul, Anatolia reported.

The AKP reached a preliminary deal with an opposition party on Thursday on a constitutional amendment to lift the ban, despite severe criticism from the judiciary and members of the academic community.

The AKP, the offshoot of a now-banned Islamist party, has long opposed the ban, arguing that it violates both the freedom of conscience and the right to education.

Readers forum: What do you think of the Pennsylvania's state store ...

In the Post-Gazette series "Monopoly Money: The control of wine and spirits in Pennsylvania," PG reporter Steve Twedt describes the workings of the state Liquor Control Board, one of the tightest, most restrictive liquor control systems in America.

Proponents say the system offers good prices, generates tax revenue and helps control underage drinking. Critics say the LCB is an arcane relic that imposes exorbitant taxes and burdensome rules.

We asked readers what they thought of Pennsylvania's state store system. Below is a selection of their reponses.

To the Editors:

Your excellent series of articles on the LCB highlight just how perverse the system is in Pennsylvania. I grew up in The 'burgh and remember trailing my parents once into the State store.

Time to put the Trade Machine to work

At crunch time, they'd have Williams and Boozer playing the two-man game with three killer shooters spreading the floor (Miller, Okur and Kyle Korver). That would be deadly, right? Also, Lowry would give them their first real backup point guard since Howard Eisley was still alive, and Cardinal gives another white guy for a franchise that can never have enough white guys. I'd think long and hard about this deal if I'm Utah.

Why Golden State does it: Because Kirilenko's manifest destiny is to play in Golden State for Don Nelson. It is. You can't tell me differently. Imagine him running around with Baron Davis, Stephen Jackson, Monta Ellis and Andris Biedrins. That's terrifying. Kirilenko would push the Warriors to another level and put them on the short list of true title contenders.

Latest murder comes on the heels of a violent Carnival

The shooting and crash attracted dozens of neighborhood residents to the scene. Causey slumped at the wheel, bleeding from a single gunshot wound to the back.

New Orleans Emergency Medical Service workers said Causey was dead at the scene. The Orleans Parish coroner's office pulled Causey from the car and later released his identity.

About 80 minutes after the murder, Irish Channel residents reported a drive-by shooting in the 700 block of Washington Avenue. Residents told police the occupant of a passing car sprayed gunfire in the middle of the block. No one was injured.

Violent Carnival weekend

Causey's murder came after a violent weekend.

On Saturday afternoon, police found the body of Terry Robinson, 26, in a vacant lot near the corner of North Johnson and Montegut streets.

How about that?

I mean, even my family I don't think I know as intimately as the people I worked with on West Wing. More than anything just to have a steady job, a sense of routine, is so lovely for an actor - you just don't get that very often. I really thrive in that condition. And then when I'm not acting I go, 'Ugh, I'm worthless. Why am I doing this? I quit. I'm gonna go back to Ohio and be a dog walker.' "

At the height of the show's popularity some of the news networks called to offer her work as a pundit. "I was offered all sorts of jobs by news organisations that should have known better," she says. "And I was like, 'That's so sweet. But you really don't want to hire me. I'm not good in that area.' " It's a shock to realise that she's talking about politics.

Janney has been in LA for more than a decade, but it isn't really her town.

Reborn Celtics host Spurs

That is, until Bonner joined the Spurs, the Celtics improved dramatically and ticket demand at TD Banknorth Garden began to outstrip supply.

"A lot of people are complaining they can't get tickets this year," Bonner said. "When I was with the Raptors, that wasn't much of a problem."

Of course, the joke is on the ticket-buying public, as well as the folks at ABC, which opted to pick up this afternoon's Spurs-Celtics tilt for national broadcast.

Kevin Garnett, the revolutionary 6-foot-11 forward behind the Celtics' revival, is expected to miss the highly ballyhooed matchup between last year's NBA champions and this year's NBA darlings.

It appears the Big Show will have to go on without its Big Ticket.

Garnett has missed the past six games with an abdominal strain.

America at a turning point, but which way will she turn?

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) deployed its Rapid Response Team of chaplains trained in crisis counseling to Blacksburg.

Some said that such incidents reflected a deterioration of the spiritual infrastructure of the nation. An incident in August caused concern nationwide because of what it said about the nation’s physical infrastructure—and how spiritual strength can help people to cope with tragedy.

I-35W Bridge collapse. When the I-35W bridge over the Mississippi River in Minneapolis collapsed on Aug. 1, the nation was riveted by the story. The story was at once local and universal, compelling on many levels.

Some asked, "Could this happen in my town, to me and my family?" Others said the crumbling infrastructure was a symbol of the spiritual decay of the country, of an inability to delay gratification in search of speed and convenience.
