Affidavit details accusations against school staffer

A Douglas County elementary school staffer who works in a computer lab allegedly took showers with two brothers several years ago when the boys were preteens, according to court documents.

Michael Patrick Willis, 36, who has been placed on administrative leave from his position at Fox Creek Elementary School in Douglas County, has been charged with three counts of unlawful sexual conduct.

Willis showered with the boys when they were about 10 years old and he was their baseball coach, one of the alleged victims, who is now 18, told Englewood Police.

The allegations came to light recently when the 18-year-old was being interviewed during an Arapahoe County Juvenile Assessment Center program.

In the interview the 18-year-old told an "intake officer" about the allegations and police were contacted.

Moneybox Goes to Vietnam

In the developing world, urban life is a Hieronymus Bosch-like vision of tangled traffic, crumbling infrastructure, overcrowding, and crippling economic inefficiencies. The population of Vietnam is 85 million souls, of which roughly 84.7 million are driving motorbikes through the center of Ho Chi Minh City right now. In Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the streets leading down to the picturesque Mekong River waterfront are lined with uncollected garbage.

But the airports—ah, the airports—in these poor countries are First World havens, oases of cleanliness, serenity, and order. The United States, the wealthiest nation on earth, presents the flip side of this paradox. Outside the airports, it's a model of calm and prosperity. But step inside, and conditions instantly degenerate. Citizens queue in interminable lines and suffer humiliating treatment at the hands of surly authorities.

I became an Islamic fundamentalist at the age of 16.” And so begins Ed Husain’s tale. In The Islamist, his memoirs published this year amid much fanfare, Husain, a British citizen of Indian-Bangladeshi origin, recounts his acceptance and ultimate rejection of what he calls “radical jihadism.” .

Lady Mocs Softball Travels to Jacksonville State

Fresh of a strong showing at the LSU Easton Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, La., the Chattanooga Lady Mocs softball team is set to head to Jacksonville State for a 5:00 p.m. double-header on Wednesday, February 20.

After opening the season with a strong showing at home against Kentucky and Wichita State, the Lady Mocs continued their strong play in Louisiana at the LSU Easton Tiger Classic, winning their first three games by a combined score of 35-11.

The Lady Mocs defeated first-time opponents St. Johns 11-5 and Nicholls State 15-6 on February 15 before a homerun barrage and a three-hit shutout from sophomore pitcher Brooke Loudermilk gave UTC a 9-0 victory over Ball State.

In that game, senior outfielder Tara Tembey (Folsom, Calif.) belted a two-run homerun in the fourth inning while junior third baseman Toni Hutchison (Madison, Tenn.) connected for a two-run blast over the center field fence to make it 7-0.

Q: I'm a 27-year-old woman who has been married for 18 months. So far, things have been great. My husband is loving and supportive, and we get along well. There is one small problem: He insists on showering with me every day. I thought this was cute at first, but now it's a pain. It's crowded - sometimes I just want to be alone and relax. And when I need to shave my legs, I have to take another shower later. I suggested we shower separately, and he got all hurt and mopey for a few days.

Delia rails against organic and the 'politics of food'

I do love fresh shelled peas that you can buy in the winter from Kenya. I’m sorry about the planet and the problems with emissions but I’m also conscious that there are people in Kenya who are getting employment and enough money to bring up their children from that produce."

"It’s really confusing at the moment and I’m in the middle of the confusion," she concluded.

Cooking up a storm

Rick Stein

Criticised Labour for its handling of the foot-and mouth-crisis and waded into other rows over the effect of government policies on rural communities and the environment. Has urged ministers to do more to promote small British producers.

Gordon Ramsay

Generally stays out of politics, but promotes organic, free-range produce in his programmes.

Updated 12:15 P.M.

According to today's Oakland Tribube, Berkeley NAACP President Allen Jackson issued a statement last week saying Berkeley Police's sole intent "is to kill any African American that they can."

The woman shot and killed Feb. 16, Anita Gay, was African-American.

Others in the local NAACP chapter have reportedly apologized for Jackson's comments.

We will follow up on that and preview tonight's Police Commission meeting, set for 7:00 p.m. at the South Berkeley Senior Center, 2939 Ellis St.

New McAfee Study Highlights Dangerous Internet Sites That Prey on ...

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- McAfee, Inc. (NYSE: MFE) today released a research report that spotlights a dangerous cyber practice known as typo-squatting. "What's In A Name: The State of Typo-Squatting 2007," exposes how typo-squatters register domains using common misspellings of popular brands, products and people in order to redirect consumers to alternative Web sites. These squatter-run sites generate click-through advertising revenues, lure unsuspecting consumers into scams and harvest email addresses to flood users with unwanted email. To quantify the scope of the study, McAfee reviewed 1.9 million variations of 2,771 of the most popular domain names.

"Typo-squatting illustrates the Wild West mentality that remains dominant in major portions of the Internet," said Jeff Green, senior vice president of McAfee(R) Avert(R) Labs and Product Development.

DANGER LURKS IN TEEN DATING GAME

New York's teen dating scene is a harsh reality of abusive 11-year-olds, 15-year-old rapists, beatings with broomsticks, and girls forced into cocaine addiction at 16.

City officials and parents were shocked and appalled last week by findings in the city Health Department's Teen Safety Report.

The study gave a disturbing insight into New York's teenage dating violence, which has spiked by 40 percent since 1999.

One out of 10 girls at New York high schools have been forced into sex, with reported rapes increasing by 34 percent.

One in 10 New York teens have experienced physical violence at the hands of a partner, the study of 8,000 students from grades 9 to 12 found.

"In public schools, the violence is way more up-front," said 17-year-old Alex Unger, a senior from an uptown school.
