Fairfax hush on projections
SCONES with jam and cream were offered after Fairfax Media's annual meeting yesterday but the board was less willing to serve up specific earnings guidance. Fairfax chief executive David Kirk said trading in the four months to October had been "strong" with like-for-like revenue growth in the "mid single digits". "With the usual disruption of advertising markets caused by the federal election and the subsequent period of adjustment, we are not able to accurately predict the first-half revenue outlook," he said. Yesterday was Fairfax's first AGM since the $3 billion marriage of Fairfax and Rural Press and following the new company's $480 million splurge on radio stations. About 350 shareholders rolled up, with directors taken to task over the company's EPS performance and whether the dividend payout ratio would remain at its current 88 per cent level.
Festival of the Arts Boca's stronger second year
The first Festival of the Arts Boca sprang up unexpectedly and on short notice at the peak of last year's cultural season, but instantly established itself as an important — and impressive — addition to the artistic landscape. There were a few first-time growing pains, admits festival chairman Charles Siemon, though nothing that seriously blunted the festival's momentum once it got under way last March. Those lessons have been put to use to prevent hassles over the next two weeks, as the second annual festival takes over the Mizner Park midtown entertainment district. Behind the festival's quick impact is the partnership between the national arts management agency IMG Artists and Mizner Park's Centre for the Arts, which operates the Count de Hoernle Amphitheatre (capable of hosting audiences over 4,000) and the adjacent 44,000 square-foot Boca Raton Museum of Art.

RIPE NCC Publishes Case Study of youtube.com Hijack
As you may be aware from recent news reports, traffic to the youtube.com website was 'hijacked' on a global scale on Sunday, 24 February 2008. The incident was a result of the unauthorised announcement of the prefix 208.65.153.0/24 and caused the popular video sharing website to become unreachable from most, if not all, of the Internet. The RIPE NCC conducted an analysis into how this incident was seen and tracked by the RIPE NCC's Routing Information Service (RIS) and has published a case study. The RIPE NCC RIS is a service that collects Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) routing information from roughly 600 peers at 16 Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) across the world. Data is stored in near real-time and can be instantly queried by anyone to provide multiple views of routing activity for any point in time.

Phillies - Admiration is mutual for Mike Schmidt, new Phillies third ...
CLEARWATER, Fla. - Truth be told, Pedro Feliz didn't recognize the sandy-haired man when he approached him earlier this week. But after he introduced himself - Pedro, Mike Schmidt; Mike Schmidt, Pedro - he was more than willing to listen. "From the best, you are always going to get something," said Feliz, the Phillies' new third baseman. What Feliz got was a ringing endorsement from the greatest player ever to play his position. Schmidt, in town for his annual 2-week instructional stint, said he has always been impressed with the way Feliz plays, dating back to the San Francisco Giants games Schmidt would catch on national television during Barry Bonds' heyday. "[He has] tremendously impressive hands - wow," said Schmidt, the Phillies' all-time leader in career home runs (548), RBI (1,595), walks (1,507) and runs (1,506).

Protesters in Belgrade attack U.S. embassy
I have yet to read a report or news about the Spanish police or army or paramilitary forces going through the Basque reagon and terrorize the population there. This was happening in Kosova on a daily basis since the late 1980's. The Albanians had no choice but to declare independence. The big injustce was done in 1912 when huge chunks of the former Austro-Hungarian empire and Ottoman empire where given to Serbia as a "spoils of war" wihout considering the ethnicity of the population there. As far as you Slavic brothers being mistreated by the west it is silly because they wanted to join the west to escape the grip of the Russian empire. You know what I am talking about. If not please sign up at a college in Chicago and learn actual history. .
