Yahoo Messenger allows you to see when friends are online and you can send them instant messages. It can also alert you to new mail in your Yahoo Mail or Yahoo Personals account, or when you have an upcoming meeting recorded in Yahoo Calendar. Yahoo Messenger offers firewall support; a standby mode that minimizes the program until an Internet connection is made; the ability to save and print your conversations; and a tabbed interface that provides quick access to your favorite stocks, news, and sports scores. Other features include the ability to create a chat room automatically, stock price alerts, the ability to send messages to friends even if they're not online when you are, a Quick Compact mode that hides the Messenger tools to maximize your viewing area, Messenger Themes, and the Online Presence, a small HTML button you can put on your Web site to allow your Yahoo buddies to instantly see if you are currently online, and voice chat, which allows you to talk for free to anybody else on the Internet.
Jangl Selects Level 3 to Support Voice Platform
BOSTON, Oct. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Level 3 Communications (NASDAQ: LVLT) today announced that Jangl is leveraging Level 3's wholesale voice and data services to provide converged communications to its customers by offering integrated wireline/wireless Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services. Distributed directly to consumers at Jangl.com and through partnerships with leaders in social networking, social media and online personals communities, Jangl's service is a simple and easy-to-use way to let people initiate phone connections without sharing their personal information. Under the terms of the multi-year agreement, Level 3(R) is providing Local Inbound, Voice Termination, International Voice Termination, Toll Free, and High Speed IP (HSIP) services to Jangl. New EU air-quality standards had looked like an insuperable hurdle to a third runway, but are being fudged with ropey claims that road traffic emissions will fall. Two weeks ago the Advertising Standards Authority ordered British Airways to withdraw the claim, made by its CEO in an e-mail to Executive Club members, that the third runway would reduce carbon dioxide emissions because aircraft would no longer have to waste fuel queueing to take off or land. This flatly contradicted Whitehall models, which assume that the new runway will raise CO2 emissions by 2.6 million tonnes a year from the 200,000 extra flights. Secondly, take the arguments about capacity. BAA's figures demonstrate clearly that Heathrow is not full.

With baby boomers entering their retirement years, Alzheimer's disease looms as perhaps one of the most significant public health issues of the future. According to the Alzheimer's Association, the number of people with Alzheimer's disease will more than triple from the current 4.5 million to 16 million by the year 2050, when the last of the boomers will have reached their mid-80s. Those alarming statistics are helping to fuel research into the relationship between diet and Alzheimer's disease. While results so far are inconclusive, evidence suggests that people who adopt dietary practices recommended for a healthy heart will also reduce their risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. "If it's good for the heart, it's good for the brain," says Betty Kuehne of the Albuquerque Alzheimer's Association.
Malawi churches review role of condoms in AIDS fight

In the past, a number of church denominations in Malawi have condemned the use of condoms for encouraging, as they believe, promiscuity and pre-marital sex among young people. Instead of condoms, the churches have called for sexual abstinence before marriage.
Bishop Bvumbwe was speaking at a meeting to review an MCC manual on HIV and AIDS. He also said that clergy should fight any harmful cultural practices that might increase the spread of the virus.
Bvumbwe said, however, that the process of uprooting harmful cultural practices should not affect Malawi's national traditions. "We should preserve our Malawian identity and not become westernised," he cautioned.

Enough" seminar at San Marcos High School raised a hand to acknowledge that they had not used a seat belt in the past month.The response didn't surprise Seitel, 30, who tours the country warning students of the tragic results of not buckling up. As a 16-year-old, Seitel was injured in an automobile crash that left her a paraplegic.
