In Politics, If You Have to Ask, It Isn't Over

People ask that all the time. How do you know when you're in love? How do you know when you're not in love? How do you know when it's over?

The answer is always the same. You know when you know. If you have to ask, the answer is, not yet.

That's the answer to the question of whether the Democratic race is over.

Not yet.

Races end when a candidate puts down his hand, or her hand, or when the people who would never endorse while there was still a contest endorse, when all the money is flowing in one direction, and the only question is when and not if.

That is, plainly, what is happening on the Republican side. The first President Bush is endorsing. All the former candidates have endorsed. The arithmetic works only one way.

Panamanian boat detained in Galapagos

Ecuadorean authorities have detained a Panamanian boat and its 21 crew members on suspicion of fishing illegally in the Galapagos Islands, officials said Friday.

The boat was detained on Wednesday in the Galapagos National Park marine reserve and allegedly carried false permits, the park said in a statement.

The 21-member crew had about 1,300 tons of fish on board and was being investigated for "possible environmental violations."

In a statement e-mailed to The Associated Press, the Guayaquil-based fishing company Nirsa said the fishermen were contracted by the company and were not engaging in any illicit activity.

The Galapagos Islands, 625 miles off of Ecuador's Pacific coast, are know for unique plant and animal life, including giant tortoises, marine iguanas and blue-footed boobies.

Missing SC Boater Says He Staged Death

(AP) TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Searchers spent days looking for Julius "Butch" Nesbitt after his empty 14-foot boat was found beached along the South Carolina coast. Now, sitting in a jail 600 miles away, he admits faking his death as he fled from drug charges.

Nesbitt spent more than six weeks on the run before authorities tracked him to a friend's home in western Indiana, where police say he had a fake driver's license and thousands of dollars in counterfeit cash.

Nesbitt said he orchestrated his "death" after South Carolina authorities filed drug charges against him, then threatened him with a long prison term by turning over the case to federal authorities.

"It was pretty much spur of the moment. It was either that or face prison the rest of my life, is how I saw it," he told The Associated Press during a jailhouse interview Thursday.

Reagins earned Angels GM job through faith, hard work

TEMPE, Ariz. -- It was 1975 when a standout basketball player from Watts entered Tony Reagins' life and his small family home in Indio, Calif. The 18-year-old man, attending a nearby college, befriended the 8-year-old boy, who'd had few African-American role models since his father's death.

"I called him 'Starchild,' " says C.D. Jackson, who at the time was dating Tony's oldest sister, Pam. "He had that bright personality, always inquisitive. ... His personality was golden."

Writers` Strike Hastens Change in TV Landscape

Hollywood screenwriters should be back at work within days after their three-month strike, but that hardly means a return to business as usual for the television and advertising industries.

Those looking for a happy ending to the labor troubles can take comfort from the prospect of hit comedies and dramas returning to prime-time TV this spring following Sunday's endorsement of a labor deal by union leaders.

Beyond disrupting the TV schedule, however, the strike shone a spotlight on broad issues facing the industry: how commercial time is bought and sold is badly outdated; show development is too costly; and, most troubling, audiences are shrinking.

"The strike kind of moved the industry from a state of evolution to one of revolution," said David Scardino, the entertainment specialist with media buying firm RPA.

Kidd trade to Mavs will cost Dallas $11 million more than original ...

Harris' numbers have improved each of his four years in the league, and we feel that he has a significant upside. This trade also will give us two future first-round draft picks and will give us flexibility to improve our roster."

Thorn told The Associated Press that as the Nets struggled this season, Kidd lost some of the intensity that defines him as a player, making it imperative that the team trade him.

Thorn said he first noticed it in December, an indirect reference to an incident in which Kidd sat out a game against the New York Knicks with a migraine, a move some considered a one-day walkout to force a trade.

"Over the course of time it became very evident that his heart wasn't in it," Thorn said. "The kind of player he is, if his heart's not in it then he's not the same player, and it became evident to me that his heart wasn't in it anymore.

For Parents: Dealing with Puppy Love CBS 42 Parental Advice for Teen ...

Do not rush your child into growing up. Their youth is the only innocent time they will have. Let your child enjoy the carefree days of childhood. * Do not label your young child’s opposite-sex friends as boy/girl friends. At an early age children often learn from their parents that being noticed by the opposite sex is supposed to be exciting. This teaches children to strive for that "special" attention. * Delay dating. Studies show, the earlier the dating experience, the earlier the sexual experience. In addition, early dating or boy/girl relationships rob children of valuable time and opportunity to learn how to develop friendships with same-sex friends. Often times when youth "go together," they exclude same sex friends.

'Semi-Pro' is far from a slam-dunk comedy

The old American Basketball Association was a scream.

Full-tilt offenses, unorthodox marketing strategies and larger-than-life personalities on and off the court made it a blast to watch, as long as you weren't too hung up on, oh, defense, teamwork, that kind of thing.

There must be a great movie to be found somewhere in the ABA's history — the St. Louis Spirits' Marvin Barnes alone would be source material enough.

But "Semi-Pro" is not a great movie. It doesn't even try to be.

Will Ferrell's latest comedy, set in the 1970's splits time between being a goofy basketball movie and a whole bunch of other stuff, none of it particularly interesting. There's a romance, a redemption story, a merger with the NBA and more. Yet, none of it feels fully formed; first-time director Kent Alterman can't pull the strands together.

New Orleans, LA (Sports Network) - Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard defied the notion that big men don't win dunk contests, slamming his way to victory Saturday night in the first ever competition in which the winner was determined by the fans.

Howard had a perfect total of 100 for his two first round dunks -- one of which featured a Superman cape -- then unveiled a pair of previously unseen slams to unseat 2007 titlist Gerald Green in the final round.

Toronto Raptors forward Jason Kapono defended his three-point shootout championship, tying the single-round record established by former Chicago Bulls marksman Craig Hodges in 1986 with a final round score of 25. Kapono outgunned Cleveland Cavaliers guard Daniel Gibson and 2006 champ Dirk Nowitzki in the final round to run away with the victory and retain his throne.
