H-T Hotline columnist Rebecca Robbins

Just a point of protocol: it's unlikely that I'll be able to answer Hotline questions in this format, but I'll be happy to take your questions and add them to my list. Anything else you want to know about writing the Hotline column is fair game. And feel free to call me Becky. Rebecca is my more formal nom de plume dating back to my lawyer days (and it's the name my dad prefers). QUESTION: what is the most interesting thing you have ever had to cover in Hotline? jeremy williams, bloomington REBECCA ROBBINS: I admit I'm partial to the science-related questions. One week I wrote about whether bubbly soft drinks contribute to global warming (they don't, much) and about Zeller's Congruence, a mathematical formula for determining the day of the week one was born. And I always enjoy the wildlife and nature questions.

Diamond Mogul Receives Angry Valentine

JDate users scouring the Jewish dating Web site in anticipation of Valentine's Day may have found a surprising match.

Lev Leviev, the controversial Israeli diamond mogul, had appeared to register a profile on the site, including such information as, “in my free time, I enjoy: Exploitation, Profiteering, Union-Busting, and Macrame."

The JDate profile was one of several recent Valentine's Day-themed acts of protest directed at Leviev, who in reality is not looking for love online but is a married father of nine and an active member of the Chabad-Lubavitch sect of Orthodox Judaism. His detractors oppose his use of diamond mines in Angola and what they say is his extensive involvement in housing construction for Jewish settlers on the West Bank.

“Because a great deal of jewelry shopping goes on during the weekend before Valentine's Day, we thought it was appropriate to reach out to Valentine's Day shoppers and encourage them to stay away from Leviev's shop," said Issa Mikel, a human rights activist who works with Adalah-NY, a coalition of organizations strongly critical of Israeli policy.

Cosmo says: Apple store is the best place to meet men

Hey, I'm no relationship guru (I write about tech, for goodness' sake). So when my single friends ask me about the best places to meet men in San Francisco, I draw a blank. As much as I'd like to help them meet a Silicon Valley man-which is what they're really after-I can't, because I don't know many single men or where they hang out. I'm married, and my friends know that.

But I guess deep down they hope I can introduce them to a few geek friends, because you know, I'm in the "tech field." If I didn't know better, I'd tell them to just go online, since that's where the guy geeks are. But a Cosmopolitan article says the best place to meet guys is at the Apple store.

Yes, the Apple store! Who would've thought?

Those experts in sex, love, and dating say most guys are natural gadget lovers, and the vibe at the Apple store is "conducive to man meeting." The article goes on to suggest single women should enroll in a free workshop, check their email while at the store, or just stop by to survey the store's "good-looking merchandise." I guess this puts male "Geniuses" at a great advantage.

Two dead after Valentine's Day tiff

A Northern Territory man shot dead his partner and stuffed her body in a freezer on a rural property outside of Katherine, before turning the gun on himself.

Police found the bodies of the unemployed couple in the Helena Road area, 8km north-west of Katherine, about 4am (CST) on Valentine's Day morning.

They had been called to the property 12 hours earlier - and cordoned off the area and evacuated several houses - following reports of a disturbance involving a gun.

The couple, known in the neighbourhood for their recent relationship problems, were believed to have been aged in their 50s and had been dating for about two years, today's NT News reported.

A neighbour told the paper the dead man, known only as Wayne, and his girlfriend Jacqueline Morrison were drinking at the property on Wednesday when they got into a heated argument.

Happily retired Curtis Martin dashing toward NFL ownership

Curtis Martin is running again. This time, he's not restricted to a rectangle. He's finally free, able to go anywhere at any time, chasing instead of being chased. It's his new life, the life he always wanted, and he's going after it hard.

He's up at dawn, eating a blueberry muffin and whipping up a fruit smoothie in his blender - mango, bananas, strawberries, dates and orange juice. Freshly squeezed, of course. He's studying the business pages and the Internet. Stopping by city hall to huddle with Mayor Bloomberg's honchos. Shopping for groceries with the homeless. Flying around the country in a private jet to meet with powerbrokers. Dating a supermodel. Working up a serious sweat in the boxing ring, his new passion.

"It's like I have access to a whole new world, a world I disciplined myself away from when I played football," says Martin, who retired in July as the NFL's fourth all-time leading rusher.

Museum displays military exhibit

A special military exhibit, composed of a collection of weapons, uniforms and commemorative items dating from the 1880s, is on loan to the Sparks Heritage Museum.

Veterans are invited to visit the museum free of charge for the month of February and March.

Also, any military personnel who arrive in uniform also will receive complimentary admission.

This exhibit is part of the museum's continuing tribute to locals serving on active duty. If your local loved one is serving on active duty anywhere in the world, bring in a 5-inch-by-

7-inch or smaller photograph, and he or she will be included in the unique exhibit.

"Many of our members are veterans and collectors of military memorabilia," said museum manager Anthea Humphreys.

Pete Doherty's Free love

Pete Doherty's new girlfriend is a "clean-living" teenage model.

The troubled Babyshambles rocker - whose turbulent relationship with model Kate Moss ended last year - has reportedly been dating 19-year-old beauty Portia Freeman since last December after she watched him perform in London and went back to his Wiltshire home.

Pete's friend said: "Portia is probably the best thing to happen to Pete. She is a very clean-living girl and not at all into drugs."
