| Lo, Murdoch did bring the good news and stored up riches on earth
Rupert Murdoch is out to prove that you can serve God and mammon after all. The media tycoon's Fox Entertainment has bought beliefnet, the largest online faith and spirituality network. The site is a portal that includes interviews with celebrities and politicians, social networking tools, blogs, inspirational stories, sacred text searches and views from teachers and preachers. Discussion boards carry topics such as "Can inter-faith dating work?" and "Extreme abstinence". Beliefnet was founded in 1999 and the company claims to have 3 million unique visitors a month and nearly 11 million subscribers to a daily email newsletter. Beliefnet provides content across a broad range of faiths. For the undecided, it offers Belief-O-Matic, a questionnaire that helps to find which religion best defines people.
Ventre: XLII things to expect this Sunday
Lo and behold, it's Super Bowl XLII. It doesn't seem that long ago that it was Super Bowl XLI. My, how quickly an “I" can zip by. It strikes me that for this edition, there is an enormous amount of interest, but almost no drama. The interest is in whether the 18-0 Patriots (and no, I won't convert that into Roman numerals, even if I knew how) can become the 19-0 Patriots; in whether Bill Belichick and the Pats can stick it to their Spygate persecutors; whether Tom Brady's ability to limp into Gisele Bundchen's apartment will translate into an ability to evade the Giants' pass rush; whether Eli Manning can possibly join brother Peyton in the Super Club; and whether Randy Moss has found a permanent home. But drama? Few expect the Patriots to lose. Without any real sense of uncertainty about the outcome, how can there be drama? .
Obama Received $80,000 From Firm Of Abramoff Notoriety
The title to this article is exactly how I'd write it if I were a political hack trying to drum up a faux controversy for use by other political hacks in the mainstream media. Which is exactly what Sam Stein of the Huffington Post did on February 12th as he broke out the yellowkid journalistic mold for a fantasy leftist hack attack on John McCain headlined in giant font, McCain Received $100,000 From Firm Of Abramoff Notoriety. Before I comment further on the idiocy of Stein's assertions it is only fair that I mention that there is nothing in his article that isn't true just as there isn't anything untrue in mine here. Barack Obama did in fact receive over $80,000 from the same firm that Stein tries to hang John McCain with. In addition both John McCain and Barack Obama were eclipsed by the $162,450 amount received by Hillary Clinton from employees of the same jaded firm.

Getaway car in "100mph police chase" - court
Shuck also pleads not guilty to dangerous driving on the A4440 Broomhall Road in St Peter's, Worcester, and on various lanes in the Norton and Littleworth area. Alarms went off at the DVLA office just before 11pm that night. An hour later PC Otun saw the Mondeo pull into the viewpoint car park. Because it suddenly left, he gave chase and told the jury: "I was doing in excess of 100mph near the St Peter's gardening centre and wasn't getting close to the Mondeo. Numerous items were thrown out. At the time I was fearful for my life." One object later recovered was the 18inch long metal safe. Money was later seized from a third man who has pleaded guilty to burglary, said Miss Crabb. PC Otun said at Hatfield Bank the Mondeo stopped and two rear passengers fled, one wearing a jacket with distinctive white stripes on it.
Govt not to seek hike in power tariff
Bad economics cannot be sound politics said Ashwani Kumar, union minister of state for industry, while addressing a press conference on the sidelines of the Kila Raipur sports festival here today. Ashwani argued that the Punjab government should end its free power sop to the farmers. Personally speaking, I can guarantee that free power sops cannot stay forever in the current economic situation. The state cannot even dream to initiate new power schemes till its board is further stripped of its funds through free supplies. Uninterrupted and not free power supply is the need of the hour, he said. The minister said one should rise above political interests of populism and give a new direction to the power generation and distribution sectors. He said, Clearly speaking, the success of the Indo-US nuclear deal is very important in context of development for future needs.

Report: Mounties to Charge Ex-Nortel Finance Execs
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are about to charge two former top finance executives at Nortel Networks for their alleged involvement in a fraudulent accounting scheme, according to Canada’s Financial Post. Douglas Beatty, a former CFO, and Michael Gollogly, an ex-controller, are expected to be charged with fraud "imminently," according to the report. advertisement The charges stem from an RCMP probe launched in 2004. The Mounties' investigation concerned the telecom giant’s financial results in the fourth quarter of 2002 and the first two quarters of 2003, according to the paper. Beatty and Gollogly reported to then chief executive officer Frank Dunn, who was fired "for cause" in 2004 after the Toronto-based company announced it would restate its financials, the Post reported.
